Alanna-Erin is the Irish artist and creative force behind Bandraíocht, an artistic practice rooted in femininity, freedom of expression, sensuality and female empowerment.
Based in the South of Ireland, Alanna-Erin brings together two forms of creative expression through Bandraíocht: one-of-a-kind bespoke lingerie and empowering photography. At the heart of both is the same purpose: to create a space for women to explore, celebrate and express themselves freely and entirely on their own terms.
The story of the name
Bandraíocht
The name Bandraíocht is deeply connected to that philosophy. Meaning “Druidic priestess” in Irish, it evokes an ancient and instinctive sense of feminine power. It represents something that already exists within women, waiting to be remembered, embraced and expressed.
A piece of history
A machine ofreclamation
There is also a powerful piece of Irish history woven into the creation of Bandraíocht’s lingerie. Each piece is made using a sewing machine that came from a Magdalene Laundry in Ireland.
For Alanna-Erin, using this machine carries particular significance. The Magdalene Laundries represent a painful chapter in Irish history, when women and girls experienced institutionalisation, control and severe restrictions on their independence, identity and freedom.
Today, a sewing machine connected to that history is being used for something profoundly different. In Alanna-Erin’s hands, it creates pieces that celebrate female empowerment, freedom of expression, individuality and sensuality.
There is a conscious sense of reclamation within that process. A machine connected to a place where women’s choices and expression were once restricted is now being used by an independent Irish female artist to create work that encourages women to embrace their bodies, explore their femininity and express themselves however they choose.

Every Bandraíocht lingerie creation is one of a kind. These pieces are not designed around mass production or somebody else’s idea of what femininity should look like. They are individual artistic creations, made with character and intention, celebrating the personality and individuality of the woman who chooses to wear them.
Photography
A rite ofpassage
That same philosophy flows naturally into Alanna-Erin’s photography. A Bandraíocht shoot is designed to be more than simply standing in front of a camera. Alanna-Erin describes it as a “rite of passage”, an opportunity to reconnect with yourself, explore your femininity and discover what can happen when you give yourself permission to be seen without apology.
Her photography embraces the many different ways femininity can exist. It can be powerful and vulnerable, sensual and playful, soft and unapologetic. There is no single version of what a woman should be, how she should look or how she should express herself.
The experience is intended to leave something with you long after the photographs have been taken. It might be a feeling, a memory, a renewed confidence or a part of yourself that you had perhaps forgotten.
For Alanna-Erin, sensuality is not something that should be dictated, hidden or defined by somebody else. It belongs to the individual. Bandraíocht creates a space where women can explore that sensuality in whatever way feels authentic to them.
Through every photograph she captures and every piece she creates, Alanna-Erin is building Bandraíocht around a celebration of women having the freedom to decide for themselves what femininity means.
